WHAT I LIKE ABOUT HIS PRINT … This is an example of a Celtic zoomorphic, or, an animal that turns into something else. In this case, the letter “S.” It is an initial letter from the story of Scholasticat, the famous feles bibliothecia (cat of the library) from the Irish monastery of Blarney. The most definitive source on Scholasticat comes from the 10th century Irish manuscript Vita Sancti Finnei Radii [The Life of St. Finneous the Radiant]. The only surviving evidence of The Life of St. Finneous the Radiant is an abstract which appears in the 12th century manuscript Liber Canis Parvi Caerulei [The Book of the Little Blue Dog]. No copies of either Vita Sancti Finnei Radii or Liber Canis Parvi Caerulei are known to exist. The inside of the the kitty’s body is a Pictish (Scottish) key pattern. I love the pop the muzzle gets from the peachy orange color and the great contrast with the cerulean tongue & claws.
