WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS PRINT … Poetry is an oral art form. It is meant to be heard. As a printer I see it as a visual art form, and the ragged right-hand border of most poems offends me. It makes it harder to balance the text on a page. And the couplets of the poem would make it short and squat. I love the boldness of the Lydian type (borrowed from Jon Hinkel’s Tightsqueek Press) with the thick lines of the linocut. The letterpress puts so much pressure on the block that the strokes from carving the block with the gouge come out in the print. I am not sure why the Fool would be sowing seeds under the moonlight, but it seems something a Fool should do. In our modern world the fool often gets the crown, but today’s fools lack the wisdom they were once known for. And when are pointy-toed shoes with bells on the tip coming back into style?
