What I like about this print … its gotta be the gams on this guy!  I was originally thinking of a more traditional … like 18th century … zoological illustration. That would probably lend to a photoengraving done from a pen & ink sketch which can produce delicate lines . But when I did a linoleum cut just for fun I fell in love with the rough vigor of those legs.  And then maybe I got my hands on some far-out metallic green ink and was going to go full glam-frog but sadly while the water-based ink doesn’t dwell on the oil-based printer’s ink of the outline, it does leave the glitter behind. So I opted for slightly watered-down olive green which quite makes the frog pop & hop off the paper. With the lilies above I was going name this print “Froggie went a court’n” after the song by Doc Watson (my first exposure to folk music years ago). Poking around just a bit led me to discover the song dates back to the 16th century and one school of thought links it to a satire with Mary Guise (aka Mary Queen of Scots) as Froggie’s bride, Miss Mousey.
